Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s marriage brought joy to country music fans worldwide, who viewed them as a prominent couple within the genre. However, the news of their divorce left many saddened and curious about the reasons behind their decision. Read on to discover more about their divorce.
Following her split from Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert chose to remain silent on the matter and avoided engaging in conflicts. Lambert shared her experience with the intense public and media scrutiny that followed her divorce during an interview with CBS News.
“I wasn’t sure how to handle that. Nobody is, in my opinion. And sometimes it’s not nice, but you have to take it with a grain of salt,” Lambert remarked. “I’m a singer-songwriter, so fortunately I can tell my whole truth. I will not lie in my music.”
After five years of marriage, the couple decided to part ways in 2015, and shortly after, they each began new relationships. Shelton went on to marry fellow voice coach Gwen Stefani, while Lambert tied the knot with Brendan McLoughlin in 2019.
The announcement of their divorce caught many by surprise. In a joint statement, they expressed their disappointment, stating, “This is not the future we envisioned, and we will move forward separately with heavy hearts.” They emphasized their status as real people with real lives, families, friends, and colleagues, urging understanding and privacy during this sensitive time.
Lambert and Shelton first met onstage in 2005 at CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets Concert. At the time, Shelton was still married to Kaynette Gern. Reflecting on their early encounters, Lambert admitted uncertainty about their initial attraction. “I didn’t know if it was just initial butterflies,” Lambert recalled. However, she described feeling drawn to Shelton, referring to it as a “pull toward one another.”
Prior to their split, Lambert shared insights into her relationship with Shelton, acknowledging that it wasn’t always perfect. She expressed gratitude for Shelton’s ability to bring light into her life, stating, “No one is happier on the planet than Blake. He saves me from the shadows. It is literally the best part of being married.”
Lambert’s path crossed with Brendan McLoughlin’s during a performance on ABC’s Good Morning America, where McLoughlin, a security officer for the New York Police Department, was present.
The couple was introduced by Lambert’s band, The Pistol Annies, who played matchmaker. Following a whirlwind romance, Lambert and McLoughlin tied the knot in a private ceremony, with Lambert announcing their marriage on Valentine’s Day.
Explaining her decision to keep her relationship with McLoughlin under wraps, Lambert cited the public scrutiny she experienced during her previous marriage to Shelton. “I was married before, and it was a huge wedding and everything was very public,” Lambert explained. “This is how I actually live. I was determined to keep my connection with Brendan a secret for as long as possible.”
