The British royal family is facing a new tragedy.
Thomas Kingston was found dead on Sunday evening. The 45-year-old financier married Lady Gabriella in 2019, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, who are first cousins of Queen Elizabeth II.
Highlighting the significance of this branch of the Windsor family, the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, attended the wedding.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the sad news yesterday, relaying a statement from his widow and family.
“Tom was an exceptional man who brightened the lives of those who knew him. His death was a great shock to the entire family, and we ask that you respect our privacy as we mourn his passing,” the statement read.
Shortly after, King Charles III and Queen Camilla expressed their condolences.
“The King and Queen have been informed of Thomas’ death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in mourning a much-loved member of the family.

The day before, Prince William canceled his appearance at the commemoration for his godfather, Constantine II, the last king of Greece, for “personal reasons.”
These reasons were not specified but are reportedly unrelated to Thomas Kingston’s sudden death, the circumstances of which remain undisclosed.
