It was an ordinary day for Cathy Weed’s family until tragedy struck. Cathy stepped on an ant pile at her Lawrenceville home and died instantly.
Her 15-year-old son Gray, a sophomore and member of the Mountain View High School Bears baseball team, lost his biggest supporter. Cathy was always there in the stands, cheering him on.
After her passing, the Mountain View community gathered on the baseball field to honor her memory. Cathy was a beloved community pillar, and her death left everyone devastated.
Cathy’s untimely death was caused by a severe allergy to fire ants. The reaction was so intense that it took her life before she could reach her medication.
In 2018, Cathy experienced a similar allergic reaction from an ant bite, resulting in an ER visit. She used that incident to emphasize the importance of having non-expired EpiPens available due to a nationwide shortage. She emphasized the importance of keeping a non-expired EpiPen readily available, as the consequences could be fatal. Unfortunately, after several years, her life was tragically claimed by the same allergic reaction.
A donation portal has been established for people to support the family with monetary contributions or volunteer meals.
Amidst this tragedy, young Gray has received immense love and support from the community and his baseball teammates. Cathy Weed’s obituary describes her as an “extraordinary individual who touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering compassion will forever be remembered.”
Gray’s coach, Jason Johnson, recalled Cathy’s wonderful nature and the strong bond she shared with her son, saying, “His mom was everything to him, and he was 100%, even more so to her.”
This sudden and tragic loss is profoundly heartbreaking. Keep the family in your thoughts and share this story so others can do the same.
