In a heartbreaking turn of events, a former fire chief bravely sacrificed his life to protect his family from gunfire during the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old individual, decided to attend the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13. Accompanied by his wife and daughter, they eagerly participated in the event. It was a peaceful political gathering that suddenly descended into chaos and terror as gunshots pierced the air.
In a tragic turn of events, Governor Josh Shapiro sadly confirmed that Comperatore had made the ultimate sacrifice, shielding his family from the hail of gunfire.
“Corey was a girl dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday.” During a press conference, Governor Shapiro expressed deep admiration for Corey’s strong sense of community and unwavering love for his family. Corey was a passionate advocate for the former president and was thrilled to have the opportunity to be present alongside him in the community that night.
Allyson, the daughter of Comperatore, recently shared a poignant account of her father’s last moments on social media. However, the post has since been deleted. She recounted the terrifying moment when he swiftly pushed her and her mother to the ground, bravely protecting them from the bullet. She described him as a “real-life superhero” and mentioned that he had a deep love for his family. “He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us.”
The shooting took place mere minutes into Trump’s speech. In a shocking turn of events, the former president found himself in the line of fire as a bullet grazed the top of his right ear. However, thanks to the swift action of the Secret Service agents, he was promptly whisked away to safety. Two additional participants, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, sustained injuries but are said to be in stable condition.
The suspected shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, was killed by Secret Service after opening fire from an elevated position outside the rally venue.
