Avett Ray Meness is a six-year-old prodigy from Ohio who could play the piano by the time he was one year old. The boy was born nearly blind, according to CBS News.
“When he could finally get to the piano by himself, he played ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,’” says Avett’s mom, Sarah Moore. At that time, he was only 11 months old.
Since then, the boy has started taking piano lessons, learning new techniques and classic melodies with his teacher.
“Music is in him,” says Moore. “He practices his performance. He has an amazing talent. People ask him to perform.”
Soon, Avett will participate in a fundraising event. He has also performed in front of teachers and staff at the local school, where there were 900 people present.
A video of Avett asking his mom to send his songs to singer Adele went viral. At that time, she was his favorite artist. The video was even shown on a news broadcast.
The film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was nominated for an Oscar, intrigued Avett, and he created his own cover version of the movie’s soundtrack.
What’s special about this boy? He was born with optic nerve fibropplasia. One of his eyes doesn’t function, and the other has very limited vision.
“He has very poor vision. He uses a cane and reads Braille,” says Moore. She wants to show people what life is like for those with special needs. She has told Avett’s classmates about his condition and even wrote a book on the subject, titled “Clouds of Cotton Candy.”
“He is the main character of the book. Avett couldn’t see the clouds in the sky, so I wrote a book so he could see them. I teach people how to interact with blind and visually impaired individuals.”
Avett Ray is a boy with an old soul, according to his mother. Why? Because although life took away the boy’s sight, God rewarded him with immense musical talent.
