Meg Ryan has addressed the ongoing scrutiny over her appearance and speculation about possible plastic surgery. In a recent interview, the actress responded to the headlines about her looks and shared her perspective.
Ryan, 62, discussed the media’s speculation, particularly the rumors of a possibly unsuccessful cosmetic procedure. Although she didn’t confirm or deny undergoing any surgery, she candidly expressed her feelings on the topic.
“I can’t pay attention to it. I just can’t,” Ryan said. “It’s not worth it. Of course, that would hurt someone’s feelings, but there are so many more interesting things to think about. Meanness and hatred are just so stupid.”
At this stage in her life, Ryan has reached a place where she no longer feels pressured to conform to others’ expectations and instead embraces her true self. “There’s a time in your teens and 20s where you’re trying on personalities to figure out who you are, who to be,” she noted. “With age, you get to a place where you say what you mean without thinking about how it’s going to land. You just say what you want.”
The conversation about Ryan’s appearance intensified with the release of stills from her latest film, “What Happens Later,” which debuted in November 2023. Despite marking her return to the romantic lead role after a 15-year hiatus, focus shifted to her looks.
One fan, reflecting a common sentiment, commented on X (formerly Twitter), “Great to see Meg Ryan back with her bread and butter, but I wish she didn’t mess with her face.”
Although Ryan has not publicly acknowledged any cosmetic procedures, speculation persists. Celebrity facial plastic surgeon Dr. Sam Rizk, for instance, suggested she might have had a poorly executed facelift, stating, “I think she had a bad facelift in the wrong direction, sideways, instead of vertical.”
Plastic surgery can have significant impacts on celebrities, and supermodel Linda Evangelista’s experience is a stark example. She has publicly shared her struggles after being left “brutally disfigured” by a cosmetic procedure, dealing with the resulting mental and emotional challenges.
