Myles Copeland, a basketball player and firefighter, sprang into action to save a referee during a game in Upstate New York. Footage captured the moment when the referee collapsed on the court due to a heart attack. Without hesitation, Copeland raced across the floor to perform CPR until paramedics arrived.
Reflecting on the incident, Copeland stated, “The basketball game just didn’t matter anymore; it was about saving his life.” Thanks to his quick response, he successfully revived 61-year-old John Sculli, who was able to talk by the time he was placed on a stretcher.
Sculli’s fiancée, who watched in horror as he became unresponsive, initially covered her face in shock. However, after Copeland helped revive him, she expressed her gratitude by calling him a “hero” and embraced him upon his return to the court.
Following the heart attack, Sculli underwent triple bypass surgery and is currently recovering. He has expressed deep appreciation for Copeland’s lifesaving efforts.
In Copeland’s words, “I’m very thankful I was there, and I’m sure he was thankful that I was as well. While everyone else was in a panic, I remained calm and collected, drawing on my training.”
