A great-grandmother has taken to social media to share heartfelt advice with young moms, urging them to treasure even the most routine moments of motherhood.
Being a mother is no easy task, especially for those caring for young children. With no breaks or retirement, moms are constantly on call. It can be particularly demanding for new mothers, who often put their own needs aside to focus on their children. However, Torchy Swinson, a grandmother of five and great-grandmother of six, is using her TikTok platform (@torchyswinson2) to offer a reminder: appreciate every stage of motherhood.
In one video, Swinson paints a vivid picture: “It’s 6:00. You’re in the kitchen making Hamburger Helper. Your husband just got home, and you hear him laughing with the kids in the living room. It warms your heart. You don’t realize it yet, but this could be one of the best days of your life.” Her words are clearly shaped by her own experiences as a mother and grandmother. She followed this with another message for young moms.
“I’ve come to understand that I’ve entered the last years of my life,” Swinson begins in her second video. Reflecting on her own past, she remembers how she, like many others, often thought she would be happier when certain stages of motherhood were behind her—whether it was when her children were out of diapers, in school, or grown. “I wasted so much time thinking that way,” she admits, even noting how she used to long for retirement.
Swinson’s key advice: “Don’t wait for happiness. Find joy in what’s happening now because that’s where it truly exists.” Her message resonated deeply with her TikTok audience, many of whom shared their own stories and emotions in the comments.
One user, @megsvande17, fondly remembered eating Hamburger Helper as a child, with her parents chatting about their day over dinner. Another, @relleybee_xo, shared her struggles as a single mother after her husband was imprisoned. @jacidiane expressed how Swinson’s words helped her focus on cherishing her time with her family, while @coreysmom4ever32 reflected on her own grief after losing a child, regretting not having appreciated those everyday moments more.
Swinson’s simple yet profound message encourages mothers to be present, finding joy in the small, fleeting moments of life.
