Four Sisters Took the Stage 60 Years Ago—Remember This Timeless Tune?

Some performances refuse to fade with time, and one unforgettable moment on The Lawrence Welk Show proves it! The Lennon Sisters—four harmonizing siblings—first graced the stage on December 24, 1955, delivering a mesmerizing rendition of Tonight, You Belong to Me. Decades later, this stunning performance continues to captivate audiences, racking up over 3 million YouTube views since its 2010 upload!

While the quartet’s lineup has changed over the years, their magic remains. Originally consisting of Dianne (16), Peggy (14), Kathy (12), and little Janet (9), the group welcomed Mimi—a baby at the time of their TV debut—when Peggy left. Today, three original members—Dianne, Kathy, and Janet—keep the legacy alive, with their biggest annual gig being a festive Christmas show in Branson, Missouri.

The sisters owe their big break to Lawrence Welk’s son, Larry, who just happened to be their classmate! He invited them home to sing for his famous father, and the rest is history. Blown away by their angelic harmonies, Welk wasted no time booking them for his hit show. The audience was just as enchanted, and from 1955 to 1968, the Lennon Sisters became one of the show’s biggest attractions.

Their signature song, Tonight, You Belong to Me, soared to #15 on the charts in early 1956, cementing its place in pop culture. Though it was their only charting hit, it remains a fan favorite decades later.

As for The Lawrence Welk Show, it went from a regional Los Angeles program (1951-55) to a prime-time ABC sensation (1955-71) before continuing in national syndication until 1982. At its peak (1964-69), it was a top 30 TV phenomenon!

So, have you ever been serenaded by the legendary Lennon Sisters? Do their timeless harmonies still hold up against today’s stars? Let us know what you think!
