Jelly Roll and MGK Put a Fresh, Soulful Spin on “Take Me Home, Country Roads”

Jelly Roll and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) have teamed up to put a fresh twist on John Denver’s legendary “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The original song, penned by Denver along with Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert Danoff, became an iconic country anthem when it was released in 1971, capturing the deep longing to return home to West Virginia. Denver’s rendition was even honored with a spot in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.

Now, Jelly Roll and MGK have reworked the timeless hit into a brand-new track titled “Lonely Road.” While they’ve preserved the song’s familiar melody and emotional depth, they’ve infused it with their own signature styles, creating a modern, genre-blending anthem.

“Lonely Road” tells the poignant story of a man struggling through life’s hardships. As he reminisces about the happier times he once knew, he now finds himself feeling lost and alone—a sentiment that adds a raw, personal touch to the classic theme of longing for home.

To bring their vision to life, the duo also released a music video featuring themselves alongside their real-life partners, Bunnie Xo and Megan Fox. The visuals add an extra layer of emotion, making the song even more impactful.

With “Lonely Road,” Jelly Roll and MGK have managed to honor Denver’s original masterpiece while giving it a unique, contemporary edge. It’s always thrilling to see artists from different musical backgrounds join forces, and this collaboration is no exception.

And if you love unexpected musical team-ups, Jelly Roll recently shared the stage with Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean for a surprise performance of “I Want It That Way.”
