It’s not every day you come across an animal that can play a musical instrument—especially not with this level of skill. Meet Jokgu, a piano-playing Buff Brahma chicken from Germantown, Maryland, who is managed by the quirky duo known as “Two Creative Chicks.” Not only can this feathered virtuoso play solo piano, but she’s also part of a band called The Flocksters.
The Flocksters became an internet sensation after posting videos of Jokgu playing music alongside her human companion. Jokgu even made a memorable appearance on America’s Got Talent, where she was later joined by another chicken named Aichan. Together, they formed the act Jokgu and Aichan. Unfortunately, the novelty of the piano-playing chickens wore off quickly, and their act only made it to the judge’s cuts.
Jokgu became a national sensation in America after her viral audition, where she performed the U.S. national anthem on piano. She was dubbed the world’s most patriotic chicken, captivating millions with her unexpected musical talents.
At first glance, it seems like a light may be guiding Jokgu to the correct keys as she plays, leading some to wonder if this is a simple trick. But when you watch closely, it’s clear that Jokgu may actually have an instinctual connection to the music. While it’s hard to prove if she’s truly recognizing patterns and listening to the notes, one thing is certain—she’s the most musically gifted chicken the world has ever seen.
In a similar vein, there are dogs that can hear a note and match it by pressing the corresponding key, demonstrating that animals can have a musical intelligence of their own. Maybe chickens, with a little help from a light-up keyboard, have it too!
