A 10-Year-Old Girl Saves Her Family From a House Fire in Indiana: “She Punched Through the Glass”

A 10-year-old girl is credited with helping to save her brothers and grandma from their burning Indiana apartment on Sunday morning.

According to NBC station WAVE, body cameras captured the spectacular rescue of five children aged three to thirteen and their grandmother, who jumped from a second-story apartment window and into the arms of emergency responders.

According to authorities, the young child smashed the window to help her family escape.

She smashed through and shattered the glass, according to Patrolwoman Nichole Midgett. Then she began to pull the infants out, and all the children jumped out.

Police say they responded to the fire on July 3 at approximately 1:00 a.m.

“Upon arrival, Officers saw numerous people trapped in an apartment on the second floor, and the stairway was engulfed in flames,” they posted on social media.

After the child “began shattering windows,” the authorities “caught each child as he or she jumped from the windows.”

The responding officers then “began fighting the flames until other firefighters arrived on the scene.” Additionally, they entered the building to ensure that no one else was trapped.

The police said WAVE that they were managing people at the neighboring annual Madison Regatta on the Ohio River.

Patrolman Phillip Wimpee told the publication, “It was one of the most hectic scenes we’ve ever been on, yet the best coordinated response we’ve probably ever had.” And I believe we would all agree with that.
