Carol Burnett, along with Tim Conway and Harvey Korman, were incredibly skilled at tickling America’s funny bone. Their one-of-a-kind style of wacky, absurd, and physical comedy still brings the laughs today, just as it did when the show first aired. The Carol Burnett Show was incredibly popular during its eleven seasons, to the point where it became a running joke in the TV industry that CBS stood for Carol Burnett Show.

Being recorded in front of a live studio audience, one of the highlights of the show was the infectious laughter from the crowd after every punchline. Carol enhanced the show’s intimacy by engaging with her fans on-camera between sketches, and she never failed to fulfill at least one audience member’s request for her iconic Tarzan yell.

Throughout its impressive 279-episode run, the show managed to secure an astounding 25 Emmys and eight Golden Globes, setting a new record. Carol Burnett has an impressive record of receiving more People’s Choice Awards than any other actress. Her hit series has even been recognized by Time magazine as one of the hundred best television shows of all time.

The show had a long run, spanning from 1967 to 1978 with a total of 279 episodes. It later made a comeback in 1991 with nine new episodes. Additionally, a spinoff sitcom called Mama’s Family was created, featuring Vikki and Harvey reprising their recurring sketch characters from the Carol Burnett Show.
