Boy Asks to Play Guitar at Festival and Shocks the Crowd With Epic Guitar Solo

At a lively summer festival in Cobham, Surrey, 10-year-old Jake Collinson had one simple wish: to play guitar on stage. Holding a handmade sign that read “Let Me Play Guitar With You,” Jake stood near the front of the crowd with his parents, hopeful and excited.

That’s when Rick Parfitt Junior—son of the late Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt—spotted the sign during his performance with the RPJ Band. Rick read it out loud with a grin, saying to the audience, “That’s a bit of a risk,” but he couldn’t ignore Jake’s enthusiastic nod. So, on a whim, he invited the boy up on stage.

Curious, Rick asked Jake what band he liked most. Without skipping a beat, Jake answered, “Guns N’ Roses,” and added that he wanted to play “Sweet Child of Mine.” Rick blinked in surprise. “Are you serious?” he asked, as someone quickly brought a guitar out for Jake.

With about 5,000 people watching, Rick joked, “This could either be incredible or… incredible obviously,” and then stepped back. Jake started to play—and from the very first notes of that iconic intro, it was clear: this kid could really play. The crowd was stunned.

Later, Jake shared a clip of the moment on his Instagram, writing, “Can’t believe this happened. Think it went quite well.” That might be an understatement.
